There were typically 3 medals awarded for the Great War 1914-1918 to Australian service men and women. Most of these entitlements have been digitised and are available to view at the National Archives of Australia website.
We over the years have had clients swear black & blue that Great Grandad got 3 medals however that is quite often not the case.
The 1914-1915 star was only issued to those who embarked overseas before the end of 1915. It is uncommon to see this medal awarded to battalions higher than the 32nd Battalion. When researching on the NAA website the medal entitlement is usually one of the last pages and it pictures the outline of the 3 medals that could be awarded. Sometimes this confused with what was awarded. As per the image below please note the “N/E” handwritten in the void of the star. This means “not eligible”. The other 2 medals have numbers. This should clarify and doubt on that entitlement.
